Working with Lewes District Council

We are working with Lewes District Council on options to develop genuinely affordable homes for local residents and workers in Lewes. With support from Acton in Rural Sussex (AirS) we will continue to work positively in partnership to expolre viable opprtunities.

 

 

North Street Quarter

 

The CLT have been interested in options for this site over a long period. For a number of years we worked with the former owners Santon. In 2015 the Lewes Community Land Trust signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ for us to acquire or build affordable 15 homes on the site.

 

We have also worked with the Sounding Board - a body representing, among others, ourselves, Lewes Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Lewes and Lewes Town Partnership - liaising regularly with the developer and Council.

Now that the new owners Human Nature have gained outline planning permission, we hope to be able to work from them to ensure that the site does offer genuinely affordable housing options for Lewes residents and workers.

Other Possibilities

 

We are also actively monitoring the potential of other sites in the town such as the St Anne’s School development - in order to provide genuinely ‘affordable’ homes for locals who need them.
