Homes for Lewes

Current Plans

Our first development.

Lewes District Council, in partnership with Lewes Community Land Trust, is committed to delivering a cluster of affordable houses on a site which it owns. We are currently finalising the contract to buy the site and will initially build seven homes for rent. The Covid 19 virus is slowing us down but we hope that once life settles, we can conclude the purchase. We will then forge ahead - consulting with local residents and the community - and then begin the design, planning and build.

North Street Quarter

The plans for this idea have been rumbling on for years. NSQ Ltd (formerly Santon) are joint owners and developers, who in partnership with Lewes District Council (LDC), own most of the site. In 2015 the Lewes Community Land Trust signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ for us to acquire or build 15 homes on the site.

We are also working with the Sounding Board - a body representing, among others, ourselves, Lewes Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Lewes and Lewes Town Partnership - liaising regularly with the developer and Council. The start of the project has now been delayed while the developers and the District Council await suitable bids for the development of the site.

Other Possibilities

We are also actively monitoring the potential of other sites in the town - such as the St Anne’s School development - in order to provide genuinely ‘affordable’ homes for locals who need them.
